6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Community Library of DeWitt & Jamesville

Event Details

The Everson Museum of Art and the Community Library of DeWitt & Jamesville are partnering to bring you an art-themed book club right at home, in the car, on the trail, or camping in a tent in the woods. Wherever you are right now, you can enjoy a fascinating book and join the discussion on Zoom from your computer, tablet, or phone! Presented by the docents of the Everson, this social book club is open to adults and seniors looking to have a relaxing chat about a thrilling topic from the world of art.

We are reading The Woman Who Stole Vermeer : the true story of Rose Dugdale and the Russborough House art heist by Anthony Amore for the April session. This book recounts the extraordinary life and crimes of heiress-turned-revolutionary Rose Dugdale, who in 1974 became the only woman to pull off a major art heist, making off with millions in prized paintings, including works by Goya, Gainsborough, and Rubens, as well as Lady Writing a Letter with her Maid by the mysterious master Johannes Vermeer. In the world of crime, there exists an unusual commonality between those who steal art and those who repeatedly kill: they are almost exclusively male. But, as with all things, there is always an outlier-someone who bucks the trend, defying the reliable profiles and leaving investigators and researchers scratching their heads. In the history of major art heists, that outlier is Rose Dugdale.

Registration Required. Zoom meeting information will be emailed to registrants on the day of the event. This event is moderated.
